Hi there… Just felt like writing something today.
I’ll share some information about the Roustabout job.
When someone start to work on a rig, whether it’s a platform or a drilling ship, they most likely start as roustabouts.
The roustabout is the guy who make sure everything is on its right place and that stuff are clean and working.
Like all others, he’ll work for 12-14 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The roustabout is the guy who cleans the dirty machinery and move it to where it needs to go.
He’ll also help the Roughnecks if they are short on time or missing a launch break.
For example, if the roughnecks are behind schedule, then they’ll call for a Roustabout, who will substitute, while one guy will go and have his meal. Then the roughnecks will take shifts so everyone gets to eat.
This is also a kind of training for the roustabout, and when he’s ready, he’ll move up the ladder and be promoted to roughneck.
But, until that happens, these are some of his duties:
- Mixing the Drilling Mud
- Hauling and Moving Supplies
- Moving Heavy Machinery and Equipment
It is primarily hard manual labor, but the pay is quite good. $47.000…
That’s it… see you next time.
